Learning Disabilities, Autism and Neurodivergence

For:

This service supports adults with learning disabilities, autism or ADHD. We can assess you and help you understand your diagnosis, offering therapeutic input. We can also advise on what you might practically need to support you in your daily life, physical health, communication, mental health and independence.

We also offer guidance for your family or carer, to help you get the support you need. Beyond this, we’ll help you access other health, emotional and social support and we’ll work with GPs, therapists, and other professionals to ensure you get the right care at the right time.

About the team

Our team includes clinicians, therapists and specialist practitioners who support adults with learning disabilities, autism, and ADHD.

We work closely with other services and community partners to provide care that feels joined up and personal. Our aim is to offer what you need at the right time, including advice and practical support that helps you feel more confident managing daily life.

If we are not the right service for you, we will help you find the right place to go.

Questions and answers

What support can this service offer?
Our support depends on your needs. It may include autism or ADHD assessments, practical advice, treatment such as medication, guidance for families and carers, or support for complex needs connected to a learning disability which may include support with your physical health, daily living skills, communication, emotional wellbeing, behaviour, or dementia. We also can offer or suggest psychological therapies if you need structured therapeutic support, and advice for families and carers.
Do I need a diagnosis to be referred to this service?
You do not need an existing diagnosis for autism or ADHD assessments. So long as there’s a clear reason to explore whether you should be assessed for autism or ADHD, you can be referred to us by a GP or another health professional. You do need to be eligible for the learning disability service, and this can be explored at the point of referral.
Do you provide emergency or crisis support?
No. If you need urgent mental health help, contact 111 and choose the mental health option, or call 999 in an emergency.
What happens after a referral is made?
We’ll review the referral information so we can understand your needs. Once we’re ready to begin your assessment or support, we’ll contact you.
Do you support adults with learning difficulties?
No. Learning difficulties (such as challenges with reading or writing) are not the same as a learning disability. If you have a learning difficulty, there should be other learning or support services in your area or online. Or check for services linked with your college, university or place of learning.
Is there support for families and carers?
Yes. We can offer advice to help families and carers understand how best to support you.
