For:

The Children’s Integrated Therapies Service provides specialist support for children and young people with physical, developmental and functional difficulties. About the team

Our team includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists and therapy assistants. We work to help your child fulfil their potential and overcome or manage barriers to movement in their daily lives.

We help children and young people build independence with daily activities like dressing, writing or going to the toilet, and work with them to manage muscle, joint and balance conditions so they can be more confident in their everyday lives.

We also support the adults around them, like parents, carers and school staff, by giving advice on movement aids and other equipment, and offering school-based therapy.

If we are not the right service, we will help you find the right place to go. We will not leave you feeling stuck.

Who does the Integrated Therapies Service support?
We support children and young people with mobility and physical difficulties that impact their daily life. This can include difficulty with daily activities like dressing or writing, mobility difficulties, delayed development of sitting, crawling or walking skills, joint, muscle and posture concerns and children who need specialist equipment like walking aids, or additional support in school.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
In the first appointment, your child will be seen by a physiotherapist or occupational therapist. They will do an initial assessment of your child’s needs, which will include asking about your child’s history, medical background and how they’ve changed as they’ve grown. Asking about any previous therapies they’ve had and checking their movement, posture and ability to do basic tasks, asking what your child and you would like to achieve through therapy.
How long will the first appointment be?
The first appointment usually takes 30-60 minutes. Once the therapist has finished their assessment, they’ll discuss the next steps with you and your child.
What sort of care and support does the Integrated Therapies Service provide?
Our service helps your child to reduce the impact their physical and movement difficulties have on their daily life. This might include play-based therapy and exercise, referrals for splints and braces (orthotics), school-based therapy and advice on helpful specialist equipment.
