Sleep information and strategies
For: Children

About the event
This webinar is designed to help parents and carers understand sleep better and feel more confident supporting their child when sleep is difficult.
You’ll learn why sleep matters, how it affects your child’s mood, learning, and behaviour, and why sleep problems are so common for children and young people. The session gently explains how sleep works in the body, including the role of hormones like melatonin and cortisol, and how stress and anxiety can make it harder for children to fall asleep or stay asleep.
The webinar covers common sleep difficulties, such as trouble settling at bedtime, waking in the night, or needing support to fall back to sleep. It reassures parents that these challenges are very normal and that there are practical, manageable steps that can help.
You’ll be guided through clear, realistic strategies to try at home, including:
- creating calm and predictable bedtime routines
- understanding sleep hygiene and the bedroom environment
- spotting patterns using a simple sleep diary
- supporting children to settle and resettle safely and gently
The session highlights that every child is different. What works for one family may not work for another, and that is okay. Parents are encouraged to try one change at a time, give strategies time to work, and adapt ideas to suit their child’s needs.
Importantly, the webinar is kind and reassuring. It reminds parents that they know their child best, that there is no “perfect” routine, and that some children naturally sleep differently, especially as they grow older. It also recognises how hard sleep difficulties can be for families and encourages parents to look after themselves too.
The webinar also clearly explains where to get extra help if sleep problems continue, including support from school nursing teams, parent carer forums, GPs, and trusted national organisations.
Overall, this webinar is a supportive starting point for families who want to better understand sleep, feel less alone, and find gentle ways to improve bedtime and night‑time routines — at a pace that feels right for them.
