Adults Speech and Language Therapy

For:

We provide assessment, advice, information and support for adults – and their families or carers – who have difficulties with communication (speech, language or voice) and/or swallowing.

About the team

Our team is made up of Speech and Language Therapists and Speech and Language Therapy assistants.

Our Speech and Language Therapists are experts in assessing and treating adults with a wide range of communication and swallowing difficulties.

People with the following conditions may have communication and/or swallowing difficulties. They will often benefit from being assessed by a speech and language therapist. These conditions include stroke, Parkinson’s disease and related disorders, dementia, voice disorders, head and neck cancer, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, head injuries and age-related difficulties with speaking and swallowing.

Some of these conditions may be covered by other neighbouring services, such as hospital-based teams. If we are not the right service, we will help you find the right place to go.

We can usually help if:

Questions and answers

Where will my appointment take place?
The service works across the community and so you will be seen in the most appropriate location for you. This might be in one of our community clinics, a hospital, or your home. It could also be a virtual consultation.
How long will I wait for an appointment?
When we receive your referral we will contact you to find out more about the difficulties you are experiencing and decide how quickly you need to be seen. Where there is a wait, we will give you information, advice and ideas to try before you see us. You are always welcome to contact us if you have any concerns while you are waiting.
