People across Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW) are being supported to stay safe, steady and independent at home, with the launch of a new online falls prevention service.

Steady on Your Feet is a free digital resource designed to help residents understand and reduce their risk of falls through practical advice, short self-assessments and personalised action plans.

Falls remain one of the leading causes of injury among older people and can have a significant impact on individuals, families and health and care services. Across BSW, many people attend hospital each month following a fall, underlining the importance of early, preventative support in the community.

The service encourages people to take action sooner. By answering a small number of simple questions, users receive tailored guidance on:

  • Improving balance and strength
  • Making their home environment safer
  • Staying active and maintaining independence

The platform has been designed to be accessible and easy to use, with clear, jargon-free language. It can be used by residents, carers, family members and professionals supporting people in the community.

Where the service has already been introduced, most users report feeling more confident in managing their risk of falling, with many saying they have avoided further falls after completing the assessment.

Becci Arthur, Integrated Falls Pathway Lead, said: “Steady on Your Feet is about helping people continue to live full, independent lives. By making this service available across the region, we’re giving more residents access to practical support that fits into everyday life.”

Working in partnership to prevent falls

Steady on Your Feet is being delivered alongside Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Community Health – the all-age community health service delivered by HCRG Care Group – working in partnership with:

The programme is funded by the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board (ICB).

As a community health provider, HCRG Care Group plays a key role in supporting prevention and helping people stay well at home. Colleagues are encouraged to share this resource with patients, carers and families, and to incorporate it into routine conversations about independence and safety.
