About the event

This webinar is designed to help families understand anxiety and learn positive, practical ways to manage worries when they start to feel overwhelming.

It explains what anxiety is, why it happens, and why it is a normal part of being human. The session reassures families that anxiety can feel uncomfortable, but it is something we can learn to cope with. Understanding how anxiety shows up in the body is an important first step in managing it.

You’ll be guided through a range of clear, easy‑to‑use strategies that can help children and young people calm their bodies and minds. These include:

  • simple breathing techniques to reduce anxiety early
  • grounding activities that help bring focus back to the present
  • relaxation, mindfulness, and visualisation exercises
  • ways to manage worries before they grow bigger

The webinar also explores thought patterns, including negative self‑talk, and introduces gentle ways to challenge unhelpful thoughts and replace them with more supportive ones. Families are encouraged to notice achievements, build resilience over time, and practise being kind to themselves.

Importantly, the session recognises that everyone is different. There is no one “right” way to cope with anxiety, and it’s okay to try different ideas and see what works best. The strategies shared can be practised little and often, and many can be built into everyday life.

The webinar also emphasises the importance of talking to others, whether that’s family, friends, school staff, or professionals. Clear information is shared about where to get extra help if anxiety starts to affect daily life, including school nursing services and trusted support organisations.

Overall, this webinar offers families reassurance, understanding, and practical tools. It helps build confidence, encourages small positive steps, and reminds children and young people that they are not alone — support is always available.
