Your appointment with the neurodevelopmental pathway
For: Children

About the event
This session is designed to help families understand what to expect while their child is on the neurodevelopmental pathway, including assessments for autism and ADHD. It explains the pathway step by step, what different appointments may involve, and how families are supported throughout the process.
The video talks through how referrals are reviewed, how assessments are planned, and why the pathway may look different for each child. Families are reassured that the pathway is flexible, and assessments can be adjusted if a child’s needs change over time. Clear explanations are given about information‑gathering, such as phone calls, questionnaires, and school input, and how this helps build a full picture of a child’s strengths and needs.
The session also explains what happens during face‑to‑face, school‑based, virtual, or medical appointments, and how clinicians work to help children feel comfortable and understood. It highlights the importance of consent, clear communication, reasonable adjustments, and making appointments accessible for every family.
Importantly, the webinar focuses on what families can do while waiting, including supporting their child’s needs in everyday life, working with schools, and using practical strategies. It encourages parents to focus not only on challenges but also on their child’s strengths, interests, and wellbeing, and signposts families to trusted resources and local support—without needing a diagnosis.
Overall, this session aims to reduce uncertainty, build confidence, and reassure families that they are not alone on the pathway. It offers clear information, practical guidance, and encouragement, while emphasising that support should always be based on a child’s needs—at every stage.
